The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Colin Beazley reported Monday morning that it seemed “highly likely” that Pirates outfielder Jack Suwinski would be centered around the corresponding move in the wake of the signing of designated hitter Marcell Ozuna.

FanSided MLB insider Robert Murray reported minutes later that the Pirates were indeed designating Suwinski for assignment.

The 27-year-old has spent his entire big-league career with Pittsburgh after being acquired in a trade with the San Diego Padres in July 2021.

Suwinski made his MLB debut in April 2022 and recorded 19 home runs and 38 RBIs across 106 games that season.

He set career highs across the board in 2023, including in home runs (26) and OPS (.793), both of which led all Pirates players.

Suwinski appeared in just 88 contests during the 2024 campaign and a career-low 59 games in 2025.
