The White Sox are about to run into a very good problem to have, as they have four capable major league catchers between AAA and the major leagues. I’m not sure the White Sox projected it would happen this quickly, as Matt Thaiss has been much better than expected and Edgar Quero has made an instant impact since being called up.

With the days running out on Korey Lee’s rehab assignment, they will have to make a move to recall him to the White Sox sooner rather than later. However, they are soon going to be forced to bring another catcher up to the major leagues, as Kyle Teel has been on an unreal tear.

Teel was the headliner in the Garrett Crochet trade this past offseason and he has looked every bit of a headliner this season in AAA. Teel is currently hitting .293 with an elite .397 OBP. He has added seven homeruns, 27 RBIs, four stolen bases, and a .887 OPS.

This is exactly what the White Sox wanted to see out of Teel to this point and it may be time to call him up, as he is 23 and has now played 70+ games at the AAA level. This would be the perfect time to let him make his major league debut, as he is in the midst of an insane stretch.

In the month of May, he has gotten a hit in every single game except one, however he drew two walks in that game, so he has been on base in every single game in May. If that wasn’t impressive enough, he is hitting .356 with a .465 OBP in May, adding four homeruns, 12 RBIs, and 12 walks to 14 strikeouts.

The best time to call up a prospect to make their MLB debut is when they’re hot, as it will give them a much better chance to succeed when they’re hitting everything in sight. This is the current case for Kyle Teel so they need to call him up immediately.

Even if it requires four catchers on the roster, they need to call Teel up, as his bat could be extremely useful in the White Sox lineup. Matt Thaiss has played first base in the major leagues and Teel played plenty of games in the outfield in college, so they could split time at those positions so there aren’t four true catchers on the roster.

While the White Sox may have a similar record to last year it feels like they are playing much better baseball, so this is a perfect opportunity to get low pressure MLB at bats for one of your top prospects.
