Former Braves manager Brian Snitker receives commendation from Gov. Kemp

  • February 17, 2026

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Former Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker has been spending time in North Port, Florida, in his new role as an adviser to the organization as the team ramps up spring training. He returned to Atlanta on Monday for a special honor.

Snitker received an official commendation from Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp “for his considerable impact on the State of Georgia and Braves Country.”

A commendation “recognizes an individual, organization, or specific event, and serves in the same way as a proclamation,” according to the Office of the Governor.

Snitker, 70, spent 49 seasons in the Atlanta Braves organization, most recently serving as manager for more than nine seasons. During that span, he led the club to seven consecutive postseason appearances, including six straight NL East titles and a World Series championship.

“Honestly, I never thought I’d manage one day in the major leagues, let alone 10 years,” Snitker said this past October when he announced during a press conference that he was stepping down. “I never thought I’d hoist a [World Series] trophy. I never thought I’d be around a group of guys that makes this so special. It’s about the players, and we’ve been fortunate here to have the greatest group of coaches and players.”

Snitker managed for 20 seasons in the minor leagues, compiling a 1,301-1,309 record. He got his start in Single-A Anderson in 1982 and was named the team’s full-time manager on Oct. 11, 2016.

“I was blessed to be raised by Hall of Famers and people who did it right,” Snitker said.

Snitker will be inducted into the Braves Hall of Fame prior to a game during the 2026 regular season, and will continue to be around the team as long as he pleases.

Braves Opening Day is on March 27, when they host the Kansas City Royals at Truist Park.
