Byron Buxton
The New York Mets have slowly been making specific changes to increase their chances of winning their difficult division, the AL East and making a World Series appearance. They may not be hitting on the heavy hitters in free agency but they have slowly put together a strong roster for the 2026 season.

The Mets should not stop there. They found their center fielder they had been missing when they traded for Luis Robert Jr. from the Chicago White Sox and now they must upgrade the left field position.

Looking for additional help should be done now while spring training is underway and they should look for an experienced veteran on an underachieving team. Giving a great player new scenery with an opportunity for a championship would give that player a spark plug of excitement and get the best out of him. That is why the Minnesota Twins will trade Byron Buxton to the New York Mets.

Can Anything Save The 2027 MLB Season?

One Main NL East Storyline to Watch For in Spring Training

Byron Buxton Traded to the Mets

Byron Buxton made his major league debut back in 2025 with the Minnesota Twins and has been stellar for them. A fan favorite due to his loyalty to the city, he has the capability of being one of the best all around outfielders in baseball if he would stay healthy.

The two-time All-Star has only ever played more than 100 games in a season three times in his 10-year career, and some of his best seasons have been in one of his shortened seasons. A career-high of just 140 games in 2017, there have been signs of improvement recently with 126 in 2025 and 102 in 2024.

In just 126 games in 2025, the Minnesota center fielder was named an All-Star and smashed a career high 35 home runs driving in 83 runs batted in. If Buxton can stay healthy he can do it all for a team and maybe a move to left field would be what makes that change.

Buxton has a full no trade clause with the Twins which means he can block any trade attempt unless he waives it. Insider reports from December are saying Buxton is willing to waive his no trade clause for the right team. What better team than the Mets who are going “all-in” every year to win a World Series.

The Twins are way out of competing for a playoff spot and should look to the future and trade Buxton away for his current value. The 32-year old has a lot of baseball in him considering how few games he has played in a 11-year career. That is why the Twins should trade him to the Mets.

What Would a Trade Package Look Like?

With Buxton’s injury history and being 32 years old the Twins will not get what he is technically worth based on his potential if he is healthy but should get a price value that is worth trading him away. Especially since the Mets are desperate to win now, they could squeeze more out of the Mets than necessary.

The Mets currently have four players ranked in the Top 100 prospects via MLB.com and two of the four appeared in 2025. The current player slated to play left is Carson Benge, the Mets number two prospect set to debut in 2026. Unlikely the Mets are willing to give up any of those three players. They should look to trade the remaining player ranked in the top 100, A.J. Ewing, and another player that is currently in AAA or AA. That should be enough to get Buxton over to New York.
