The entire office, including remote workers, will shut down as part of the action, the company said.
ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis office of the Cardinals’ former TV partner is slated to close, reflecting broader financial turmoil in the team’s local media rights as it transitions to a new model that includes streaming and is expected to trim revenue by tens of millions of dollars.
Main Street Sports Group LLC, operator of FanDuel Sports Network, notified state and local officials in a Friday letter that it will permanently close its facility at 6 Cardinal Way in St. Louis, resulting in employee separations beginning in mid-April. The entire office, including remote workers, will shut down as part of the action, the company said.
The first layoffs are expected during a 14-day period beginning April 14. More than 20 positions are listed as affected, including roles in production, marketing, finance and sales. The employees are not represented by a union and do not have bumping rights, according to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notice.
FanDuel Sports Network currently carries St. Louis Blues games and Saint Louis University Billikens men’s basketball.
“FanDuel Sports Network is continuing to broadcast NBA and NHL games as we engage in discussions with our partners about our go-forward plans,” David Preschlack, CEO of Main Street Sports Group, said in a statement the company provided to the Business Journal late Friday when asked for further comment. “While final decisions have not been made, we have issued WARN notices to employees, as required by law, in connection with potential workforce impacts that could occur in the coming months. Any and all aspects of the WARN notices can be revoked at any time. We remain committed to transparency and fair treatment of our employees.”
