The Chicago Cubs have been one of the top teams in terms of developing their farm system and having players be productive in the majors. They have some elite talent currently in the minor leagues, but there is still some seasoning needed before they get called up. Let’s take a look at who is the top prospect heading into the 2026 MLB season for the team as they get ready to promote a few players to the big leagues.
Chicago Cubs prospect Jefferson Rojas makes Top 100 Prospect list

Fangraphs released their Top 100 Prospects list ahead of the 2026 MLB season, and the Cubs saw four players get highlighted. The top player for the team is shortstop Jefferson Rojas, who is ranked 55th in the sport. He signed with the team during the 2022 International Signing Period out of the Dominican Republic and is still not even 21 years old. Rojas has shown some ability to be a good hitter with a strong glove. Below is a snippet from what they wrote about Rojas:
“With players who zig and zag as Rojas has, sometimes it’s best to get off the roller coaster and get back to the fundamentals. This is a good athlete with a good swing, average power, and a strog defensive foundation. He’s been challenged throughout his career, and while you can’t completely ignore how hard he’s smacked into some of those speed bumps, the good outweighs the bad. He’s a high-priority look for us this spring, and for now, we’re staying on the tools.”
Rojas began the season in Double-A Knoxville before being sent down after posting a .164/.279/.205 slashline in 39 games. He would be sent to High-A South Bend and play 67 games where he found his footing. Rojas would finish with a .871 OPS with 11 home runs, 44 RBI, 50 runs scored, and 14 stolen bases on 17 attempts. It could have been just too soon to call him up in his development, but he is the highest-rated Cubs player entering the 2026 season. It will be intriguing to see if he can take that next step as a player and get closer to being a prospect that the major league team can call upon in the next few years.
