It’s Fat Tuesday here at BCB After Dark: the hippest happening of night owls, early risers, new parents and Cubs fans abroad. Thank you for stopping by tonight. Here are some beads, but please keep your shirt on. The dress code is festive. We gave up on collecting the cover charge a while ago. Bring your own beverage.
BCB After Dark is the place for you to talk baseball, music, movies, or anything else you need to get off your chest, as long as it is within the rules of the site. The late-nighters are encouraged to get the party started, but everyone else is invited to join in as you wake up the next morning and into the afternoon.
On Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, I don’t normally do any movie stuff although you still have a few hours left to vote in the BCB Winter Science Fiction Classic between Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan an Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Or maybe you don’t depending on when you read this. But it’s Mardi Gras so you know we can’t let the day go by without music.
Starting our celebration of New Orleans music tonight, we have Trombone Shorty playing “Hurricane Season.” Ironically, Mr. Shorty is playing the trumpet in this video. This is 2011.
Next, we have Dr. John playing the classic New Orleans tune “Iko Iko.” This is from 1995.
Here’s the Preservation Hall Jazz Band playing the Professor Longhair classic “Go to Mardi Gras” in 2015.
And finally, we have the immortal Louis Armstrong playing “When the Saints Go Marching In.” It doesn’t seem like it would be Mardi Gras without it.
Welcome back to everyone who skips the music.
There are six bobblehead giveaways this year and so tonight, I’m going to ask you which one is your favorite. That is, if you could only have one of these cool babies, which one would you pick?
So if you could only get one, which one do you want?
There’s also a “Grogu” bobblehead from the upcoming Star Wars film, but if that’s your choice, I think we can safely ban you from this site. I guess it’s OK to like it, but to like it over one of these six? Automatic ban.
Thanks for stopping by tonight. I hope you celebrated the holiday responsibly. Or at least responsibly enough that you can get home safely. Stay warm and dry out there. Recycle any cans and bottles. Tip your waitstaff. And joins us again tomorrow night for more BCB After Dark.
