The Boston Red Sox are getting rolling down in Florida for Spring Training, but it hasn’t stopped many from suggesting that they still need to improve.

The Red Sox have done what they’ve needed to do throughout the offseason, adding multiple bats, including Willson Contreras, who can play first base, but it might not be the worst idea to get rid of Triston Casas to address other areas of need while playing Contreras at first.

In a trade proposal from Ryan Shea of Sports Illustrated, Boston would trade Casas to the Washington Nationals in exchange for two arms.

Nationals receive: Casas

Red Sox receive: Travis Sykora, Jackson Kent

“The Red Sox would target Nationals pitchers Travis Sykora and Jackson Kent to bolster their pitching depth and add high-upside arms to their farm system,” he wrote.

“With the offseason signing of Wilson Contreras securing first base, Triston Casas becomes expendable, especially given his history of injuries that have limited his availability and production.”

Contreras was clearly added to replace Casas, at least for right now, but it’s also important to remember that at points throughout Casas’ career, he’s been a decent player. While he’s coming off a tough injury and didn’t play well prior to that, it’s also tough to give up on a player as young as he is.

However, many seem to want to trade him, so I doubt anyone would be upset about the decision to do so if it were to happen.
