The Chicago Cubs have a lot of young talent throughout their organization. With some talent still needing time to get acclimated to playing pro-ball, others are in a positon where they can compete to make the 26-man roster for Opening Day. Let’s take a closer look at one of the top prospects in all of baseball, according to Fangraphs, and why they view him so highly at this moment.
Kevin Alcantara finds himself on the Fangraphs Top 100 list

Fangraphs released their annual Top 100 prospects list ahead of the 2026 MLB season, and the Cubs have been represented well. Outfielder Kevin Alcantara is the 60th-ranked prospect on the list, and he is second in the organization behind shortstop Jefferson Rojas. Below is a snippet of what they wrote about Alcantara’s abilities heading into the 2026 season:
“This is one of the toolsiest players in the minors, and unlike several of his athletic peers who never really learned how to play the gaem, Alcantara has conquered Triple-A. He may need a minute to find his footing in Chicago – fortunately for the Cubs, he was granted a fourth option year – and there’s a risk that he doesn’t actualize all this potential at all. But in the long run, it pays to bet on the athletes, and this one in particular could explode if everything clicks.”
He has climbed through the ranks of the Cubs’ farm system and had a cup of coffee in the majors last season. Alcantara would play in 10 games and went 4-for-11 with one RBI, two runs scored, and one stolen base. He is currently projected to be starting the season in Triple-A, but could be competing to make the majors out of Spring Training. It will be intriguing to see how he performs and where he starts the season.
