Legendary manager Dusty Baker’s son, second baseman Darren Baker, has signed a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox, reports USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.

The younger Baker has nine Major League games under his belt, recording seven hits in 14 plate appearances with the Washington Nationals in 2024. The 27-year-old stole 26 bases in 32 attempts in 107 games last season at Triple-A Rochester.

Nightengale added that Baker is likely to open the season at Triple-A Charlotte with the White Sox.

Baker’s 2002 World Series incident

Darren Baker was just three years old when he served as a batboy for the San Francisco Giants in the 2002 World Series against the Anaheim Angels.

In Game 5 of that year’s Fall Classic, Giants first baseman J.T. Snow had to run out onto the field to grab Baker from harm’s way while he retrieved a bat at an inopportune time.

Dusty will manage Team Nicaragua at the 2026 World Baseball Classic after retiring from MLB as a manager following the 2023 season with the Houston Astros.
