Yankees could make surprising move with Luis Gil.
With the report that Jasson Dominguez might start the season in Triple-A, there is growing speculation that the New York Yankees should just cut ties with Dominguez, which is starting to gain traction.
The Yankees already have their cast of starting outfielders in Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, and Trent Grisham, which means, unless one of them gets hurt, there is no clear path to playing time for Dominguez. A recent collection of trade packages, per FanSided.com, features a massive idea with the Phillies, which would offload both Jasson Dominguez and starter Luis Gil.

Massive Trade Idea Dumps Jasson Dominguez and Luis Gil to Phillies
Is there a world where the Yankees actually move on from Jasson Dominguez and Luis Gil? It’s more likely that Dominguez will be moved, but Luis Gil, who pitched just 57 innings for New York in 2o25, also needs to prove his keep in the Bronx, especially with an already stacked rotation when Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon are healthy.
FanSided’s Christopher Kline recently put together some Jasson Dominguez trade packages that might work, and one of his proposals includes the Yankees offloading both Dominguez and Luis Gil to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for Edmundo Sosa and Orion Kerkering:

GettyYankees could make surprising move with Luis Gil.
“Luis Gil comes with his own share of issues, but he has two solid seasons under his belt (including an AL Rookie of the Year win in 2024) and he’d function as an important depth piece while Zack Wheeler recovers from shoulder surgery. The hope would be that Gil can develop into a regular No. 5 starter or swingman type over the next few years, but his stuff could perk up a bit in a bullpen role, if it comes to that.”
The thing about this WILD trade idea is that it’s not all that crazy to say the Phillies would be the ones to shut this idea down. Kerkering is a valuable bullpen asset, and Sosa would provide another layer of depth on the Yankees’ infield.

Exploring the Yankees Trade Options
If the Yankees did want to trade either Jasson Dominguez or Luis Gil, most of MLB would be at their disposal in terms of suitors.
Jasson Dominguez is still just 23 and has less than 500 career at-bats. Perhaps the best thing for him might be getting into a new organization that will trust him to step into the box every day and grind out his struggles.
And as for Luis Gil, every team needs starting pitching, and even though he comes with some injury concerns, Gil’s rookie season alone gives optimism to any team willing to acquire him.
Over 242 career innings, Gil carries a 3.50 ERA with 255 strikeouts and 131 walks. The free passes are a big concern, which might lead to the Yankees ultimately moving on from him.
