Pittsburgh Pirates top prospect Konnor Griffin is the talk of spring training, and it’s easy to see why.

MLB’s No. 1 prospect has been blasting baseballs into oblivion on the field and impressing everybody off of it. Everyone who comes in contact with him has something great to say about him, from teammates and coaches to reporters and talking heads.

That includes former star pitcher Trevor May, who recently explained why he’s keeping an eye on Griffin this spring.

“He’s a stud. This guy is ridiculous, and I want to see what he looks like in a big league spring training against big league pitching,” May said on “Foul Territory.” “Everyone’s so high on him already…He is a five-tool player across the board. Shortstop, six-foot-five…The guy rakes, and he’s a freak athlete. I want to see how quickly he hits the Major Leagues.”

Many people are wondering that, too, as Griffin fights to make the Opening Day roster. If he does, he could make his MLB debut as soon as next month.

If not, his debut will still likely come at some point this season. He may just need a bit more seasoning in the Minor Leagues after playing only 21 games at Double-A last year.

While May is excited to watch Griffin play, he’s also heard great things about the 19-year-old phenom off the field.

“There have been people talking very highly about his training and how hard he works,” May added. “I want to see it. These types of guys don’t come along that often, to be that young and be that polished, especially for a team that desperately needs it.”

He’ll get to see Griffin play soon enough. It’s only a matter of time.
