Trey Yesavage’s rise has been incredible.

That was exemplified at the end of last season, when he only showed up to the Toronto Blue Jays for the stretch run and then became a dominant postseason force anyway.

That was lifted expectations for the young right-hander sky high, and he’ll have to do his best to meet them.

It also provided a cool chance for MLB.com’s prospect ranking staff to look back. They wrote an article released Thursday which compared who they thought would be each organization’s top-ranked prospect, which they predicted two years in advance, to who it actually is.

Yesavage pulled off a leapfrog for the Blue Jays.

The writers had predicted Arjun Nimmala, a shortstop who currently ranks 77th in their top-100. Yesavage ranks No. 12.

“Toronto’s three most recent first-round picks all feature in our Top 100, and while Nimmala (the 2023 20th overall pick) ranks third of the trio, that isn’t a knock against him,” MLB.com’s writers explain. “Still only 20 years old, the shortstop made nice improvements in terms of his chase rate at High-A Vancouver last year, and he has the potential to hit 25-plus homers at full maturity as he continues to add strength to his 6-foot-1 frame. He and top 2025 selection JoJo Parker could duke it out for the future of the shortstop position north of the border.”

Given that Yesavage pitched across five levels of the organizational ladder in 2025, it’s not shocking that he has risen from lower down the board to reach this point.

Clearly, he has even more believers now. His fastball-splitter combination has the potential to be dominant for years to come.

And it’s not like Nimmala has fallen off too far. He can still become an MLB contributor, too.
