FORT MYERS, Fla. — Red Sox manager Alex Cora on Thursday pointed to recent trade addition Andruw Monasterio as someone who has stood out to him during spring training camp.

Infielder Caleb Durbin was the centerpiece player who Boston received in a six-player trade with the Brewers on Feb. 9. Monasterio and Anthony Seigler were the other two players who Boston acquired but they received much less attention.

Cora called the 28-year-old Monasterio, who has two minor league options, “a great athlete.”

The right-handed hitter from Venezuela appeared in 219 games for the Brewers from 2023-25. He went 34-for-126 (.270) with a .319 on-base percentage, .437 slugging percentage and .755 OPS in 68 games last season. Against left-handed pitchers specifically, he was 12-for-44 (.273) with a .360 on-base percentage, .477 slugging percentage and .837 OPS.

“You see him from afar or whatever, but then you see him here, it’s like, ‘Oh, shoot,’” Cora said. “He can move. He’s versatile. He can hit lefties. Now we have to work with him because I think it’s a different mindset offensively, what they do over there to what we do here. I truly believe that there’s more from the three guys (acquired in the trade).”

As a major leaguer, Monasterio has recorded six defensive runs saved in 392 ⅓ innings at second base and four defensive runs saved in 671 innings at third base. He also played some shortstop, first base and left field.

Mikey Romero is another player who has stood out to Cora.

Romero, a Red Sox 2022 first-round draft pick, finished last year strong at Triple-A Worcester. He had five home runs, seven doubles and a .547 slugging percentage in 18 games during the final month. He hit the third-most home runs in the Red Sox minor league system in 2025 with 17.

“You see the physicality of Romero,” Cora said. “He’s strong. Stronger than last year. From my end, I want to see him at second base and see how he plays out.”

Cora also said he had dinner Wednesday night with super-utility man Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who Boston signed to a one-year, $6 million deal. He mentioned that Kiner-Falefa goes about the game similarly to Rob Refsnyder.
