MLB’s top prospect Konnor Griffin is already making waves at Pittsburgh Pirates spring training in Bradenton, Florida, drawing plenty of attention with his batting practice bombs and jaw-dropping athleticism.

Despite being just 19 years old, Griffin is getting rave reviews as he pushes to make the Pirates’ Opening Day roster.

Team beat writer Jason Mackey sounds particularly impressed with Griffin based on what he told MLB Network about him on Tuesday.

“He does not look and sound and act like a teenager,” Mackey said during his appearance on MLB Tonight. “It is wild. We have to remind ourselves that he’s only 19. It’s absolutely crazy.”

Mackey has been in awe of Griffin’s stunning strength and batting practice displays.

“He’s regularly putting baseballs on top of buildings at Pirates City. His batting practice has become appointment viewing,” Mackey continued. “The swing is just so smooth.”

Mackey also said Griffin’s maturity and makeup have stood out.

“What I love even more is his temperament. He’s so mature, he gets it, he’s humble. Really likeable kid. He does everything possible to put himself in position to make this team,” Mackey added. “I could not be any more impressed with him as a person.”

That’s all great news for Pittsburgh fans, as Griffin sounds like a potential franchise cornerstone. Time will tell if he makes the team out of spring training, but now Pirates fans have even more reasons to be excited about him.
