The Chicago Cubs are ready to have some young talent make some major moves throughout the 2026 season. While some are going to begin the season in the minor leagues, others are projected to be on the 26-man roster coming out of Spring Training. Let’s take a closer look at one player on the Cubs who is ranked in the most recent prospect list despite being expected to be called up to Chicago for his rookie season to officially take place.

The Chicago Cubs have four prospects who managed to be within Fangraphs’ Top 100 Prospects heading into the 2026 season. Moises Ballesteros is projected to make the Opening Day roster with the big league squad, but is considered to be the 84th-ranked prospect. Let’s take a closer look at what they said regarding Ballesteros finding his way on this list:

“Ballesteros has an advanced bat. He’s got plus bat speed, above-average raw power, and a knack for hard contact all over the zone. The numbers under the hood reinforce the visual look: Last year, he had an 80% contact rate and 43% hard-hit rate, which make for a middle-of-the-lineup kind of combination. He’s produced at every level, including a September cameo with the Cubs last year where he hit .298/.374/.474 (143 wRC+) with good peripherals against a who’s who of big league arms. There isn’t much physical projection – only 22, Ballesteros is a thick and developed 5-foot-8 – but he’s plenty good as is.”

Ballesteros is one of the more intriguing hitters heading into the 2026 season. It will be intriguing to see how he looks facing MLB pitching consistently if he is able to make the big league club out of Sloan Park.
