Football:
Despite last year’s campaign CBSSports still has Mike Norvell in its top-25 Power 4 coaches; right at No. 25:
Mike Norvell: Norvell rocketed into the top 10 last year after an undefeated regular season, only to be ludicrously snubbed by the College Football Playoff. But this year’s ranking, like Florida State in 2024, slipped on a banana peel. The good news for Norvell is he’s still clinging to a spot in the top 25. The bad news is he’s still only 33-27 overall and 20-20 in ACC play with the Seminoles. The really bad news is Google Trends has seen a spike in “Mike Norvell buyout” queries in northern Florida. 2024 rank: 8 (-17), High: 12, Low: 41
Mike Norvell likes Thomas Castellanos’ edge and sense of urgency:
“I’m excited about his edge,” Norvell said. “He definitely brings urgency with his own personal experiences and things that he’s been able to go through. The highs, some of the low moments, just the different experiences that he brings. His care for the university is absolutely real. It’s the place that he wants to be. There were obviously other options and other things that were out there, but for him to come and just choose to be a part of this is something that I like, and I’m excited about.”
Recruiting:
FSU has momentum for four-star edge Zavion Griffin-Haynes.
Zavion Griffin-Haynes was at one time committed to North Carolina, an in-state school that plays in the ACC. There is chance he stays in that conference for another program. Florida State will get the final official visit on June 20 before he commits on July 1. Clemson is one to watch too and he will be in Death Valley on May 30. The Tigers are battling the Seminoles for that top spot heading into official visits.
FSU is expecting a few blue-chip offensive lineman on campus this weekend as summer official visits start to take place.
