With some clutch hitting by Calvin Ritter and Nolan LaVoy, the Oregon baseball team pulled out a 2-1 nonconference win over Mount Horeb on Saturday, May 24, at American Family Field in Milwaukee.
With the win over Mount Horeb, Oregon (12-11, 6-8 Badger Large Conference) snapped a three-game losing streak. The Panthers were coming off a 1-0 Badger Large Conference loss to Beaver Dam in a pitchers’ dual on Friday, May 23, at Beaver Dam High School.
Oregon will host Edgewood in the regular-season finale on Thursday, May 29, at Zach Field.
Oregon 2, Mount Horeb 1
The Panthers trailed by one run in the bottom of the sixth inning and mounted a comeback to pull out the win.
Ritter had a game-tying RBI single in the sixth. LaVoy then delivered a game-winning RBI single.
Oregon senior Peyton Soule went 2-for-2. The Panthers used six pitchers. Soule started on the mound and pitched two no-hit innings. Carson Gehrke, Caden Goins, Ryan Dins, Dillon McCarthy and Ben Borchardt each threw one shutout inning. The six pitchers combined struck out four and walked four.
The only run for the Vikings came on Josh Kuntz’s sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth.
Beaver Dam 1, Oregon 0
Beaver Dam’s Jeffrey Freund pitched a complete game two-hitter and struck out 14 to help the Golden Beavers clip the Panthers.
Soule hit a double and Elliot Mueller had a single. Landon Gladden pitched six innings and gave up one unearned run on five hits, while striking out four and walking two.
