PEORIA, Ariz. — The Padres beat the Milwaukee Brewers 7-5 on Monday at Peoria Stadium.

Batter’s box:  Miguel Andujar did what the Padres are hoping he does plenty this season when he lined a home run off a left-handed pitcher in the fourth inning. Andujar, signed this month to a one-year contract that guarantees him $4 million in large part because of his .807 career OPS against lefties, just cleared the left field fence against Drew Rom, who made eight big-league starts in 2023 before missing all of 2024 and most of ‘25 following shoulder surgery. … The only other major leaguers to reach base (in 18 plate appearances) were Ramón Laureano and Fernando Tatis Jr., who both walked, and Luis Campusano, who lined a pinch-hit single. The 15 position players on the Padres’ 40-man roster have combined to go 10-for-62 (.161) through four spring games. … First baseman Ty France, in camp on a minor-league deal, singled twice in three at-bats … Carlos Rodríguez, an outfielder who has never played above Triple-A, continued his strong start to the spring by going 1-for-2. He is 4-for-7 in three games. … Samad Taylor stayed hot as well. The 28-year-old outfielder, a non-roster invitee who has played in 38 big-league games over the past three seasons, was 1-for-2 with a double and a stolen base. He is batting .833 (5-for-6) in three games. … Three days after hitting an opposite-field home run, minor leaguer Romeo Sanabria cleared loaded bases by again going the other way with a double to the gap in left field. … Infielder Jose Miranda was 0-for-1 with a walk. The veteran of 298 MLB games in camp on a minor-league deal, is 5-for-7 with two walks on the spring.

Balls and strikes: JP Sears recorded just two outs in his first start of the spring. The left-hander, who is competing for a rotation spot, allowed four runs on four hits and a hit batter. (His top fastball velocity was 100.7 mph, one mph slower than he hit Friday.) … Lefty Wandy Peralta followed two strikeouts by hitting a batter and walking another before getting out of the fourth inning on a groundout. It was Peralta’s second scoreless inning of the spring. … Jeremiah Estrada’s spring debut began with two walks but ended without a run being scored despite his loading the bases with a one-out walk. … Garrett Hawkins, the Padres’ minor-league pitcher of the year after posting a 1.50 ERA between Single-A and Double-A in 2025, worked a scoreless ninth.

Extra bases: Catcher Freddy Fermin successfully challenged three ball calls. He is 4-for-4, and Luis Campusano is 2-for-2 on ABS challenges this spring. … Brandon Lockridge, who the Padres traded to Milwaukee at the deadline last season for pitcher Nestor Cortes and minor-league shortstop Jorge Quintana, played center field and went 2-for-4 with a home run for the Brewers. Quintana is the Padres’ second-ranked position prospect, according to Baseball America, behind catcher Ethan Salas.

On deck: Left-hander Marco Gonzales, a veteran of 10 major league seasons in camp on a minor-league contract, makes his first start of the spring, 12:05 p.m. PT Tuesday against the Cubs in Mesa, Ariz. Gonzales has made 162 starts in the majors but is coming off flexor tendon surgery in 2024.
