It was a tough weekend at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Well, at least a tough finish. Tennessee opened up their weekend series against Kent State in dramatic fashion, with Tyler Myatt crushing one deep into the Knoxville evening for a 4-3 walk off win.
But things went downhill, and Tennessee’s bats went silent for most of the rest of the weekend. Tennessee lost on Saturday 2-1 and followed with a 9-5 loss on Sunday to drop their first non-conference series since 2020.

The outlets noticed and dropped the Vols significantly in this week’s rankings. Tennessee dropped from 3 to 13 in Perfect Game and dropped to 19 and 20 in Baseball America and D1 Baseball, respectively.
The rankings are a bit wonky at times, and I struggle to understand how a 2-5 TCU team who was swept in decisive fashion by UCLA (10-2, 5-1, 15-5) can remain in the top 20, much less at 13, but the outlets can often see very different things in teams.
Speaking of the Bruins, the Vols will get a shot at redemption on Saturday afternoon against the top-ranked Bruins, as they are set to meet at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas at 4:00 pm ET. That could Tennessee a much-needed jump start back in the right direction after a shaky weekend in Knoxville.
