(WFSB) – Connecticut will be well represented when the NCAA Baseball Tournament begins on Friday. However, it will not include the UConn Huskies.
The team finished as runners up in the Big East Conference Tournament and was not selected as part of the 64-team field.
A disappointing beginning of the season put UConn in a deep hole that they couldn’t dig out of.
But the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils and the Fairfield Stags are pumped up to be playing this weekend.
The Stags earned their third ever tournament bid by winning the MAAC tournament in extra innings against Rider on Sunday. They were last selected in 2021, winning two games in the Austin regional before falling to the Texas Longhorns.
They are in the Myrtle Beach Regional and will open up the tournament against Coastal Carolina at 6:00 p.m. Friday.
The Blue Devils earned their spot in the field by winning the NEC conference tournament.
They will leave Wednesday morning and open up play against Auburn Friday night.
They have a wealth of experience and are led by head coach Charlie Hickey, who has 801 career victories under his belt.
Aidan Redahan is also the leading hitting in the country, batting an impressive .458 on the season. The team ranks fourth in the country with a .331 team batting average.
