ERIE — The DuBois baseball team came out swinging on Tuesday, pounding out 16 hits in a 16-0 victory over Meadville in five innings at Mercyhurst University in Erie.
The game was a PIAA 8-9-10 subregional, with the Beavers moving on to play Bethel Park, the WPIAL third-place team, in the first round of states on Monday.
It is the first time DuBois has been back to the state playoffs since 2014. Assistant coach Devin Walker was a player on that team.
DuBois got going early, scoring six runs in the first inning.
Trey Wingard doubled into center with one out, before coming home on a Noah Farrell single into right to make it 1-0.
Farrell was plated on a Mason Dinkfelt homer over the center-field fence to make it 3-0.
Tyler Chamberlain then reached on an error by the shortstop before scoring on a Bryson Kail single into center to extend the lead to 4-0.
The Beavers continued the hit parade with Madix Clark’s RBI single that plated Kail and made it 5-0.
That proved to be the end of the day for Meadville starter Jacoby Thompson, who was replaced by A.J. Feleppa.
Feleppa walked Bryson Graham, moving Clark to second, before getting a strikeout for the second out of the frame.
But Clark and Graham both moved into scoring position on a passed ball, with Clark eventually scoring on to widen the lead to 6-0.
The Bulldogs put their first runner on with an error, before Beaver starter Alex Sago struck out the next batter.
Sago then walked Aiden Kliest. He got Henry DeSantis-Biggs to line out to Talon Hodge at short for the second out.
Sago wound down the inning with a four-pitch strikeout of Feleppa to end the first.
DuBois picked up where it left off in the second, as Wingard singled to the shortstop.
Farrell reached on an error, while Dinkfelt hit a single into center to score Wingard.
Meadville went to its third pitcher after the Dinkfelt hit, bringing in Rocco Woodrow.
Woodrow got a pop up to the mound and strikeout a batter for two quick outs.
Clark then singled on a line drive into center, plating Farrell to make it 8-0. Dinkfelt was thrown out trying to come home to end the inning.
Sago headed back out for the bottom of the second with a nice lead.
He struck out the first two batters he faced, before giving up a single to Woodrow.
But the Bulldogs left him stranded as Sago got the next batter to line out to second to end the frame.
DuBois scored three runs in the top of the third, all with two outs.
Farrell singled into left to score Samson Deeb before Meadville intentionally walked Dinkfelt to load the bases to try and get the force out.
That backfired as Chamberlain drew a walk to force home Wingard to make it 10-0.
Kail followed that with a two-run single to make 12-0.
Sago then sat the Bulldogs down in order in the bottom half of the third.
Meadville finally held the DuBois offense in the top of the fourth, as the Beavers left two stranded.
The Bulldogs got back-to-back two out singles in the bottom of the fourth, but Sago got another line out to second to end the frame.
DuBois then put the game away in the top of the fifth, scoring four runs.
The first came by pinch hitter Adam Drushak, who homered over the center-field fence to make it 13-0.
Walker Thomas then had a one-out single and moved to second on another infield error.
Thomas went to third on a wild pitch before coming home on an RBI ground out by Clark to up the lead to 14-0.

Sago needed just seven pitches to get through the fifth, earning the win.
