Two moves in the minor league system tonight. Right-hander Nick Dean was promoted to Double-A Knoxville from High-A South Bend. Right-hander Brooks Caple was promoted to South Bend from low-A Myrtle Beach.

South Bend Cubs

The South Bend Cubs were robbed by the Quad Cities River Bandits (Royals), 10-4.

Brooks Caple’s High-A debut wasn’t what he was hoping for, as he took the loss after getting shelled for eight runs on eight hits over 3.2 innings. Three of the eight runs Caple allowed were unearned. Caple walked two and struck out one.

Chase Watkins pitched the next 2.1 innings without giving up a run. Watkins allowed two hits but walked none and struck out five.

Left fielder Reginald Preciado hit a solo home run in the sixth inning, his second on the season. Preciado went 1 for 4.

Second baseman Jefferson Rojas tripled twice in a 2 for 5 night. He scored once.

Third baseman Reivaj Garcia was 2 for 4 with two steals and an RBI single in the second inning. He also scored one run.

Shortstop Cristian Hernandez went 1 for 3 with two walks.
