Sinton goes 3-3 in CCISD Tournament

The Sinton Lady Pirates split six games Thursday through Saturday at the CCISD Tournament.

The Lady Pirates (9-10) opened tournament play Thursday with a pair of losses, falling 10-3 to Corpus Christi Ray and 9-5 to Lockhart in eight innings. Sinton responded Friday with two wins, rolling past Woodsboro 10-2 and Raymondville 18-3.

On Saturday, Sinton beat San Antonio Lee 7-5 in eight innings before coming up short against San Diego 4-2.

Against San Diego, the Lady Pirates were held scoreless until the fourth, then trimmed the deficit to 4-2 with a run in the fourth and another in the seventh. San Diego did its damage with a four-run third inning and finished with nine hits. Sinton collected seven hits and drew three walks, but left runners in scoring position late. Kassie Castillo drove in Sinton’s lone RBI, and Tiana Salone and Aubrey Faz scored the runs.

In the 7-5 extra-inning win over Lee, Sinton plated four runs in the bottom of the eighth to walk it off after Lee scored twice in the top half. Madison Martinez went 3-for-5 and scored, Jayda Castro finished 2-for-5 with an RBI, and Castillo added an RBI. Kylee Smith worked seven innings in relief to earn the win, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits with two strikeouts.

Sinton’s best stretch came Friday. The Lady Pirates scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 10-2 win over Woodsboro, piling up 13 hits. Holly Nunn went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs, while Martinez and Salone each drove in two. Martinez earned the win in the circle, allowing two runs on six hits with four strikeouts in four innings before Smith threw a scoreless fifth.
