HOUSTON — Texas baseball has a chance to score a bit of revenge for its companions on the gridiron when it takes on Ohio State Sunday at Daikin Park.

The Longhorns and Buckeyes have met on the football field in each of the last two seasons, and will do so again in 2026. But they haven’t played on the diamond since 2005, when Texas won by a 6-0 score. The Longhorns (10-0) have won nine of their 10 all-time meetings with Ohio State (5-4).

The Bruce Bolt College Classic has not been kind to the Buckeyes, who have dropped decisions to UTSA and Ole Miss so far. The Longhorns, comparatively, have cruised to a pair of wins over Coastal Carolina and Baylor.

It’ll be Dylan Volantis on the mound for Texas in the finale of the event. The lefthander has allowed no earned runs and six hits — five singles — in 14 innings of work so far this year while striking out 17. He’ll be opposed by righthander Pierce Herrenbruck, who has given up three earned runs across 10 innings in his two starts so far this season against St. Louis and Memphis.

Texas went down in order again in the top half of the frame. Dylan Volantis gave up two baserunners to start the bottom half, then collected three consecutive strikeouts with his breaking ball to escape the jam.

Both pitchers retired the side in order in the first frame. Dylan Volantis induced three weak groundouts in an easy first for the Longhorns.
