ARLINGTON — Texas Rangers starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi exited Tuesday’s 2-0 win vs. the Toronto Blue Jays at Globe Life Field after just two innings with right triceps tightness.

Eovaldi was removed from the game due to precautionary reasons and the Rangers do not believe he will need to miss time because of it. The Rangers have multiple team off days built into their upcoming schedule — including on Friday and Monday — that would potentially give Eovaldi extra time to rest.

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that Eovaldi will be evaluated Wednesday and that they’ll push his next start back if needed, though he doesn’t believe that will be necessary. Eovaldi said that he’d been dealing with tightness in his triceps prior to tonight but that he’d been able to manage it.

“Today it just felt a lot tighter,” Eovaldi said. “I hate putting the bullpen in that situation.”

His next regularly scheduled start would be next Tuesday’s series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays. Eovaldi would be on six full days of rest if he pitched.

“Believe me, he wanted to go back out, that’s who he is,” Bochy said. “But at this stage of the season we’re not going to risk setting him back if we need him.”

Eovaldi had thrown two shutout innings vs. the Blue Jays on 39 pitches before he was lifted from the game. Left-hander Jacob Latz, their long relief option, replaced him in the top of the third inning.
