It was another stellar afternoon of MLB Spring Training action up and down the Gulf Coast on Sunday, but it was also a special day for one former Bishop Verot player.

Baltimore Orioles Second Baseman Blaze Alexander started in Sunday’s game against the Boston Red Sox.

He was born in Cape Coral and attended Bishop Verot before transferring to IMG Academy for his senior year.

After changing teams, he now has a real opportunity to start at second base for the Orioles on opening day, but he was taken aback on Sunday as he returned home.

Alexander said, “I never came to any spring training games here, but played a couple state championship games here, so I was pretty familiar with the field. I had a perfect game event where I threw 100 mph across the infield here so, some history at this field. I love JetBlue, I love coming here.
