PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Yordan Alvarez and Cristian Javier, two of the last Houston Astros yet to appear in Grapefruit League play, are scheduled to make their spring debuts early this week.

Alvarez is scheduled to play Monday as the Astros’ designated hitter against the Nationals, manager Joe Espada said. It will mark Alvarez’s first game action since he sprained his left ankle stepping on the plate last Sept. 15, part of an injury-plagued 2025 season in which the slugger was limited to 48 games.

Javier will start Tuesday’s exhibition against Team Venezuela – a tuneup for the latter prior to the World Baseball Classic – at CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches. Javier has faced Astros hitters in live batting practice as part of his build-up toward a season in which he projects as a key part of Houston’s rotation.

Center fielder Jake Meyers, who was scratched from the Astros’ lineup on Friday due to back spasms, is slated to play Monday, Espada said.
