The Orange Coast College baseball team bounced back after a mercy loss 14-2 to Fullerton College on Tuesday, outscoring Fullerton 21-5.

After this mercy win from OCC, its record sits at 1-1 in the Orange Empire Conference and 11-6 on the season.

With the loss, Fullerton fell to 14-7 overall and 1-1 in the OEC.

The 21 runs scored by OCC were backed by offensive contributions from sophomore outfielder Gibson Rath and sophomore third baseman Kael Corridan.

This duo picked up a combined 9 RBIs on 8 hits in 9 at-bats, propelling OCC to the victory in their first home conference game against Fullerton.

Corridan knew that bouncing back from the loss would be no big deal for the team knowing the year they have had to deal with.

“We knew not to hit the panic button,” Corridan said. “We’ve been in a lot of adversity before, so just keep chugging along as a team and keep the good vibes going,” Corridan said.

Corridan finished the day after being pinch hit for by freshman infielder Corbin Nichols in the seventh inning. He exited the game going 4-4 with 5 RBI and Nichols went 2-2 with a double.

OCC fell behind 2-0 in the first inning but the lead was erased quickly by a seven run first inning from OCC putting them on top 7-2 by the end of the first.

OCC didn’t stop there and scored another 14 runs throughout the game, only allowing three runs after the first for a final score of 21-5.

OCC racked up 20 hits in 43 at- bats while also drawing 8 walks. The bats were on full display, showing the offensive capabilities of this OCC team.

Rath talked about how he hopes to carry his hot bat throughout the conference to help his team get some wins .

“I would love to keep that going through our conference and help my team win in any way that I can,” Rath said.

Striking out only 8 times to net 21 runs on 20 hits with 8 walks showed the momentum OCC had in this game that they hope to carry into Saturday’s finale against Fullerton

Pirates baseball head coach Nate Johnson talked about how OCC plans to come out hot on Saturday to finish the three game series with another win.

“We have got to win the series, everything is a three game series at this point,” Johnson said. “They’re (Fullerton) going to make adjustments and we got to be able to adjust to that and come out ready to go on Saturday,” Johnson said.
