Isaac Stebens is having a quiet spring training with the Boston Red Sox. Friday, Andrew Parker of SoxProspects.com revealed why.

Stebens had Tommy John surgery last week and will miss the 2026 season, according to Parker, delaying the already impressive progress made by Boston’s 16th-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft.

The 24-year-old right-hander pitched with advanced Class-A Greenville in 2025, and followed that up with an appearance in the Arizona Fall League.

Stebens went 6-0 with a 2.15 ERA in 38 appearances for Greenville. He struck out 59 batters and walked 29 in 50.1 innings, recording nine saves.

In eight AFL appearances, Stebens allowed five runs (three earned) in seven innings, allowing six walks while striking out seven.

Stebens might have had his sights set on bringing his sinker/slider repertoire to Double-A in 2026. That will likely have to wait a year, as Tommy John surgery typically requires a 12-to-18 month timetable for recovery.

Since Stebens is relatively young, and typically pitches one inning at a time out of the bullpen, his ramp-up back to the mound might be on the shorter end of the typical timetable. Don’t be surprised to see Stebens back in Boston’s minor league spring training camp in 2027.
