WHITESBORO — Seniors JJ Roberts and Ben Zyskowski pitched a combined no-hitter in their final home game for Whitesboro on Tuesday, May 27, and the No. 2 seed advanced to Section III’s Class AA semifinals with a 7-0 victory over Watertown.

The right-handed Roberts fanned six batters and walked one though four innings. Zyskowski took the ball after a four-run fourth gave Whitesboro a 5-0 lead and the left-hander added eight strikeouts and another walk.

The shutout was the third this spring for Whitesboro (12-3) which had allowed one hit in a 7-0 win over Central Valley Academy in its final regular-season game one week earlier.

Lucas Clausen doubled, walked twice and scored two runs Tuesday. Aiden Nofri also crossed home plate twice, and Chase Stoquert drove in two runs.

The quarterfinal win sends Whitesboro to Onondaga Community College on Friday for a game against Auburn, a 3-1 winner over East Syracuse-Minoa. West Genesee, the No. 1 seed, plays Central Square in the second AA semifinal.Elsewhere Tuesday:

Utica’s Notre Dame Jugglers walked off with a 4-3 win over Port Byron in eight innings in the Class C round of 16. The Jugglers (6-10-1) had tied the game in the with a run in the bottom of the sixth after Port Byron had broken a tie in the top of the inning. James Synakowski, the winning pitcher with 2 2/3 hitless innings of relief, drew a walk to start the eighth, stole second base on one pitch and third on the next, and scored the winning run on a hit by Antonio Padula. Notre Dame plays at No. 1 Beaver River on Thursday; the Beavers beat Cato-Meridian 20-4 Tuesday. Sauquoit Valley, seeded 12th, won 2-1 at Frankfort-Schuyler and advanced to play at No. 4 Fabius-Pompey, a 3-0 winner over West Canada Valley. No. 6 Morrisville-Eaton defeated Weedsport 7-1 and plays at No. 3 South Lewis on Thursday. Bishop Grimes, the No. 2 seed, beat Cooperstown 7-4.Frankie Hannigan pitched a three-hit shutout for Central Valley Academy, striking out nine batters and walking two in a 5-0 Class A victory over Carthage. The win sends the Thunder, seeded seventh, on the road to No. 2 New Hartford where they eliminated their Tri-Valley League rivals from last spring’s playoffs. Andrew Joyce pitched a three-hit shutout of his own with seven strikeouts and one walk in a 6-0 win for No. 5 Camden over Homer. Camden’s Blue Devils play Thursday at Westhill, a 7-3 winner over Oneida. Chittenango defeated Vernon-Verona-Sherrill 8-3 in the game that determined the quarterfinal opponent for top seed Jamesville-DeWitt.Daniel DePaul went 3-for-3 for Proctor in the Raiders’ 6-3 Class AAA win over Syracuse’s city schools. The Raiders, seeded second, play at Auburn’s Falcon Park on Friday against Christian Brothers Academy. Rome Free Academy’s season ended with a 6-4 loss to Cicero-North Syracuse.Madison, Poland and Hamilton were victorious in Class D. Madison, seeded fourth, beat Copenhagen 13-1 and plays at home again Thursday against No. 5 Poland, an 11-8 winner over Lyme. Hamilton, the No. 8 seed, beat one Center State Conference rival, New York Mills, 23-7 and advanced to play another, two-time defending champion and No. 1 seed Oriskany.In Class B, No. 5 Little Falls began its hunt for a third consecutive sectional crown with a 7-4 win over Mt. Markham; the Mounties play on the road Thursday at No. 4 Solvay, a 10-0 winner over Canastota. Holland Patent, seeded sixth, shut out Marcellus 3-0 behind Augie Jones and moved on to play at home again against General Brown, an upset winner as the No. 14 seed over No. 3 Lowville Academy. Top seed Bishop Ludden ended the season for Herkimer with a 12-1 win over the Magicians who had beaten Clinton the day before.
