This was a tough week for the SEC schools, the last one before in-conference play begins in earnest.

LSU was one of the biggest losers over the weekend. The reigning champions lost two games to Sacramento State, and four of the last five, dating back to the week before. LSU lost to Northeastern 13-10 on March 9, then took a road loss to Louisiana-Lafayette on the 4th.

Finesse pitcher Cooper Moore and reliever Deven Sheerin didn’t pitch well on the 7th, and the Tigers scored just one run the following day.

The Florida Gators took their first big hit of the year, as UF lost two of three to High Point. Florida saw Liam Peterson skate his way out of trouble in the 6th, as he struck out 11 despite walking four. However, sophomore Jackson Barberi conceded three runs over .2 IP in relief, which put the game out of reach for the offense.

Aside from LSU and Florida, Vanderbilt couldn’t sweep North Dakota State this past weekend. Arkansas, ranked sixth, lost two games to Stetson, including an afternoon affair on March 9.

However, it wasn’t all bad for the SEC. Georgia swept Queens (NC) in a four-game tilt. Catcher Daniel Jackson hit four more home runs, which gave him a DI-high 14 home runs.

Mississippi State rebounded from a weekend road loss to #7 Southern Miss to sweep Lipscomb.

For some ACC schools, it was the first weekend of in-conference play. Wake Forest and Virginia were among the notable winners.

Wake Forest put up 33 combined runs to sweep Stanford over the weekend. That extended the Demon Deacons’ winning streak to 15. Kade Lewis was all over the stat sheet, as he picked up eight hits over the three games.

Chris Pollard’s Virginia won two of three from UNC in Chapel Hill. The Cavaliers won 13-3 in the Friday matchup, then took the second game by a score of 9-2. Eric Becker notched three hits in the opening contest in a series where UVA was able to get to both Jason DeCaro and Ryan Lynch.

USC, meanwhile, swept Illinois during the opening weekend of Big 10 in-conference play. The Trojans are now 15-0 on the season, one of two undefeated teams in the top 25. Texas (15-0) is the other.

Junior left-hander Mason Edwards is up to 42 strikeouts over 24 innings. Edwards has yet to allow an earned run this season.
