Top outfielder propsect Josue De Paula is among the 12 players cut in the Los Angeles Dodgers secound round of cuts as the team gets closer to opening day

As the Los Angeles Dodgers get closer to opening day, the team made its second round of roster cuts yesterday, with 12 players who will not be on the opening day roster.

Of the 12, two were optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma and 10 were sent to minor league camp. Pitcher Ronan Kopp and outfielder/ first baseman Ryan Ward were the two optioned. The 10 players sent to minor league camp are: top prospect outfielder Josue De Paula, pitchers Carlos Duran, Carson Hobbs, Garrett McDaniels, Jackson Ferris, Wyatt Mills and Lucas Wepf, catcher Griffin Lockwood-Powell and outfielder Kendall George.

De Paula is the Dodgers’ top prospect and the No. 15 prospect in all of MLB. In 2025, in 98 games in the Dodgers High-A affiliate — the Great Lake Loons — De Paula slashed .263/.406/.421 with 12 home runs, 44 RBIs and a 19.0 BB% before being promoted to the AA Tulsa Drillers for four games.

In 14 games with the Dodgers during Spring Training, the 20-year-old slashed .375/.464/.417 with an .881 OPS, four RBIs, four walks and eight strikeouts.

Ward is 28 years old and had a productive season in Triple-A, where he slashed .290/.380/.557 in 143 games last year. He was in the mix for one of the Dodgers final roster spots — as he was added to the teams 40 man roster after the season — until Los Angeles signed outfielder Kyle Tucker. Additionally, he slashed just .156/.182/.219 in 12 games during Spring training.

It is safe to say Ryan Ward deserved his spot on the 40-man roster with the Dodgers. He swatted 36 HR and posted a 132 wRC+ while being top 10% in Hard-Hit%, AVG EV, and xSLG. This system is loaded with an abundance of talent! pic.twitter.com/JhWBrR7bki

Mills, Duran and McDaniels are the only players from that list to have played in the major leagues. Mills pitched 42 innings between 2021 and 2022 with the Kansas City Royals and Seattle Mariners, but has since been in the minor leagues. Duran pitched in one game for the Athletics in 2025 and McDaniels pitched 10.2 innings with a 5.91 ERA with the Los Angeles Angels in 2025.
