Japan looks to stay perfect in Pool C play when it hosts Czechia in Game 4 on Tuesday.

Team Japan is off to a great start in its World Baseball Classic title defense when it hosts Team Czechia on Tuesday morning. This game is a Pool C matchup from the Tokyo Dome in Japan. Japan is in first place in Pool C with a 3-0 record. Czechia is on the opposite side of the spectrum in the pool standings, in last with a 0-3 record. Japan already qualified for the quarterfinals with a win against Korea on Saturday, but the team kept it rolling with a 4-3 win over Australia to remain undefeated. The game was incredibly close until the bottom of the seventh inning. Australia scored the first run in the sixth inning on a stolen base and a throwing error. But Japan didn’t let that faze them, with Masataka Yoshida hitting a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to retake the lead. Then Japan added two more in the eighth on a Teruaki Sato double and a bases loaded walk. Australia kept up the fight, scoring two in the top of the ninth, but the team couldn’t complete the comeback. Japan secured the top spot in the pool in the process.

Hiroto Takahashi will get his first start of this tournament. The righty is a starter for the Chunichi Dragons of the Nippon Professional Baseball league. Japan will be the huge favorite against Czechia to stay perfect today.
