Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Jose Berrios will see specialist Dr. Keith Meister next week to examine his elbow inflammation, manager John Schneider told reporters Friday via MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson.
Matheson notes that Meister has viewed Berrios’ MRI and will now see the veteran righty for an in-person visit.

Berrios was set to join Puerto Rico for the knockout round at the World Baseball Classic, but his participation was halted when insurance was denied after a medical showed something in his arm, which prompted the Jays to administer their own MRI.
Schneider told reporters Thursday that Berrios’ scan revealed “different inflammation” from the issue that cut his 2025 season short.
Berrios was placed on the injured list last September with elbow inflammation that ended his season. The move came only days after he lost his spot in the starting rotation. Berrios chose to return home to continue his recovery
instead of remaining with the team through the World Series, something that became a source of contention between the Jays and the pitcher.
A native of Bayamon, Berrios is set to embark on his 11th big league season and sixth with the Blue Jays. He had a 9-5 record with a 4.17 ERA in 31 outings last year.
The two-time All-Star has three years remaining on a seven-year, $131 million deal.
Latest on Bieber

In a week, the Jays will see if he’s ready to get on the mound for the first time this spring.

Bieber is battling arm fatigue after returning from Tommy John surgery last season. The Jays announced earlier in spring training that the 30-year-old will be delayed to start the 2026 campaign.
He made 12 total appearances down the stretch of the regular season and in the playoffs after the Jays acquired him from the Cleveland Guardians ahead of the trade deadline.
