Riley Spann was excellent for Pike Central Monday in the opening round of the 15th Region Softball Tournament against Floyd Central. 

Spann tossed a one-hit shutout as the Lady Hawks knocked off Floyd Central 4-0.

Spann got the win in the circle tossing all seven innings and shutting out Floyd Central on one hit and one walk, while striking out 10 batters. She was one of the three at the plate with a double.

With the win, Pike Central advanced to the 15th Region semifinals against Shelby Valley.

With the loss, Floyd Central finished the season with a 16-11 record.

Pike Central got going in the bottom of the third. 

With one out, Briley Williamson hit a bunt single. Williamson reached second on a passed ball. 

Abby Hess followed with a bunt single. With some heads-up base running, Williamson scored from second base and on the throw home, Hess advanced to second as the Lady Hawks took the lead.

Stormie Marcum followed with a sacrifice bunt to push Hess over to third. 

With two outs and one on, Jaycie Stanley walked. Hess scored on a wild pitch to give the Lady Hawks a 2-0 lead after three innings of play.

Pike Central added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.

With one out, Spann doubled to get the Lady Hawks going. Kennedy Hamilton followed with a walk to put two runners on. Belle Maynard added a two RBI double to push the lead to 4-0.

Floyd Central pitcher Maddy Engle suffered the loss in the circle. She tossed six innings of work and gave up four runs on four hits and three walks, while striking out three batters.

Delilah Rodriguez had Floyd Central’s lone hit of the evening.
