PHOENIX – With his latest Cactus League start in the rearview mirror, Jacob Misiorowski is ready to hit the throttle.

“I’m ready to go now,” Misiorowski said after throwing four innings March 14. “Let’s do it. That’s where we’re at. One more [start] and we’re going to call it a spring, I guess.

“We’ll see what happens.”

Could what happens after that be an opening day start?

With Brandon Woodruff continuing to throw water on the idea of pitching the opener for the Milwaukee Brewers, Misiorowski would seem to be the next pitcher in line. Add in the fact that his spring schedule aligns perfectly to start on March 26 when the White Sox come to American Family Field, and it sure seems more likely than not.

The Brewers' Jacob Misiorowski, seen in action earlier this spring, worked on his curveball in pitching four innings against the Rockies on March 14 at American Family Fields of Phoenix.

The Brewers’ Jacob Misiorowski, seen in action earlier this spring, worked on his curveball in pitching four innings against the Rockies on March 14 at American Family Fields of Phoenix.

But don’t tell Misiorowski that.

“You guys are in the same boat as me,” Misiorowski said. “And even if I did [know], I don’t think I’d want to tell you.”

It’s been a spring of mystery for Misiorowski, who’s also hinted to reporters that there is something in particular he’s working on with pitching coaches Chris Hook and Jim Henderson but won’t disseminate anything other than that.

After going four innings with two runs allowed and six strikeouts in his penultimate tuneup against the Rockies, he did let in on his plan. And it was quite simple.

“I’m looking to throw strikes and get hitters out quick,” Misiorowski said.

It was clear – even without Misiorowski divulging his secret – that he spent the outing working on his curveball. With Rockies hitters zeroing in on his in-zone fastballs in the first inning, the right-hander flipped to the breaking ball, ultimately throwing it 34% of the time and for six whiffs.

This is part of the development in Year 2 for Misiorowski. Not only has he gotten better at reading swings, but he’s also receiving help from coaching support staff members Abdel Yeb and Evan Martin, getting solid feedback on how hitters are attacking him.

If Misiorowski does start two Thursdays from now, he would be the least-experienced Brewers opening day starting pitcher since Rafael Roque in 1999. For a team coming off a 97-win season, that would be almost stunning, yet this is how the Brewers will operate in 2026.

Outside of Woodruff, the member of the projected opening day rotation with the next-most service time is Kyle Harrison, who’s all of 24 years old and hasn’t even spent two years in the bigs.

Misiorowski, Chad Patrick and Brandon Sproat are all under one year of service time. The team’s depth options beyond that – Logan Henderson, Robert Gasser, Shane Drohan, Coleman Crow and Carlos Rodriguez – don’t have much experience, either.

And neither does the injured Quinn Priester.

“We’re inexperienced, but that doesn’t mean we’re not good,” manager Pat Murphy said. “We’re inexperienced and I think they’ll respond.”
