Mizzou softball served up a double dose of wins Saturday, ending its bye-week series 4-0 with victories over South Dakota and Iowa State. The Tigers are now on a five-game win streak, the longest all season.
“We played extremely well on both sides,” Mizzou coach Larissa Anderson said. “I just feel that (the team is) much more confident right now, and all their hard work is paying off.”
Mizzou 9, South Dakota 0, 5 Innings
Stefania Abruscato started off the first inning against South Dakota with her first home run of the season to drive in two runs for Mizzou. Sophie Smith then doubled to left center to draw in another run.
The Tigers poured it on in the second when Aburscato singled to right field to allow Claire Cahalan to score from second. Sidney Forrester followed up with a home run to tally two more runs.
The homers kept piling up with another one from Abby Carr in the third. Addy Waits later doubled to right to usher two runners home to finalize the 9-0 win.
Marissa McCann pitched a complete game, allowing one hit with no runs and eight punchouts.
Mizzou 6, Iowa State 4, 7 Innings
In the second game of the day, Carr opened the first inning against Iowa State, doubling to left center to bring in three runs. Madison Uptegrove then hit to deep right so Carr could score from second.
Waits ripped one down the right field line in the fourth, and Carr singled to center in the fifth, each earning a run to fix the 6-4 win.
Later in the fifth, Waits made a quick catch at third, then threw across the mound to first to earn a double play.
Cierra Harrison kicked off the game on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while allowing two hits and two runs. Carr relieved her in the third to finish the game. She allowed three hits with one run and five punchouts.
The Tigers combined for 15 RBI across both games.
Mizzou will hit the road to play a doubleheader against Illinois at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Eichelberger Field in Champaign, Illinois.
