The other day, I asked a few questions about Rob Thomson and his tenure with the Phillies. He is in the midst of arguably the best stretch of regular season baseball this franchise has had in their history, yet he is not as universally liked as one might imagine. There are pockets of people that wish for his dismissal, particularly after this past postseason that saw more than a few decisions made that raised eyebrows. With the 2026 season upon us, I asked what his future might ultimately hold.

“Win or go home” has a few different meanings, but for a majority of fans, that will apply to Thomson and how he finishes with the team. For many, Thomson needs to win something substantial this year, be it a playoff series more, lest he find himself no longer employed by the team. However, I had another question: how much responsibility ultimately rests on Thomson’s shoulders?

Even with these parameters, there is still a majority of fans that believe the time has come for Thomson to win or else. Would that be the right move? Only time would be able to tell that answer, but again, many believe the team shouldn’t really wonder.
