NOTES:
Josh Gunther had another tremendous start for the Gamecocks, pitching 6.1 innings of no-hit baseball in Friday’s game at Florida. Gunther did not allow a run and struck out five as the Carolina pitching staff did not allow a hit until two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Gunther is 2-0 on the season with a 3.65 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 24.2 innings pitched.
Amp Phillips went six innings in Saturday’s start against Florida. He did not allow an earned run while striking out three and allowing just five hits. Phillips lowered his ERA to 2.62 after the outing and has a .207 opponent’s batting average.
Will Craddock belted a pair of home runs in Tuesday’s game at The Citadel. Craddock led off the game with a deep shot right down the line in left field. It was Carolina’s first leadoff home run since Nathan Hall at Arkansas last season. He added a second home run in the fifth frame, a solo shot to the gap in left. Craddock leads the Gamecocks with a .375 batting average and has four home runs with 12 RBI and a team-best 15 runs scored.
Luke Yuhasz belted his first home run as a Gamecock in Sunday’s game against Florida, a three-run blast that went 465 feet to straightaway center field. Yuhasz now has 15 career home runs between Louisiana-Lafayette and Carolina.
Carolina will return to Founders Park for four games this week, taking on Charlotte on Tuesday afternoon and hosting Arkansas for a three-game series starting Friday night.
