AVANDATIMES.COM – The Arizona Diamondbacks have continued to refine their major league depth chart, announcing on Sunday that fan-favorite reliever Drey Jameson has been optioned to Triple-A Reno. The move comes as part of a three-player roster shuffle that also saw veteran right-hander John Curtiss and first baseman Luken Baker reassigned to minor league camp, leaving the big league squad with 37 active players in Scottsdale.

Jameson Focuses on Command in Reno

Jameson, a high-velocity right-hander who has long been a focal point for the Diamondbacks’ faithful, is still navigating the final stages of his recovery path following Tommy John surgery. While his 2025 campaign was limited, his performance during the 2026 Cactus League schedule suggested a need for further refinement. Over 5.1 innings across five appearances, Jameson surrendered six runs, five of which were earned, while struggling with consistency in the strike zone.

AvandaTimes observed that Jameson’s sinker velocity remains encouraging, consistently hovering in the mid-96 MPH range. However, his most recent outing highlighted ongoing command issues, as he issued three walks and allowed three runs in just 1.2 innings of work. The decision to send him to Reno allows the 28-year-old to log consistent innings without the immediate pressure of the major league bullpen.

Depth Moves: Curtiss and Baker

Alongside Jameson, the Diamondbacks moved two other contributors to the minor league side of camp to ensure organizational depth remains prepared for the long season ahead:

John Curtiss: The journeyman reliever, who posted a 3.93 ERA over 36.2 innings for Arizona last season, will provide veteran insurance at the Triple-A level. He allowed three runs in 5.2 spring innings before the reassignment.Luken Baker: Despite a productive spring where he slashed .273/.385/.576 with three home runs, the former Cardinals infielder finds himself caught in a roster crunch at first base.

Infield Health and Opening Day Outlook

The reassignment of Baker is closely tied to the health of the Diamondbacks’ primary infield options. Pavin Smith is currently managing tightness in his left forearm, though the club has opted not to pursue immediate imaging. According to AvandaTimes monitoring, Smith is still projected to be ready for the season opener, where he is expected to platoon at first base with veteran Carlos Santana.

Catcher Gabriel Moreno is also being monitored for undisclosed physical concerns, though the team remains optimistic about his availability. While Jameson, Curtiss, and Baker are no longer on the active spring roster, they remain eligible to appear in Cactus League games as the Diamondbacks finalize their 26-man roster for the 2026 season.
