The Philadelphia Phillies made it clear that keeping Kyle Schwarber was a top priority during the winter. Schwarber is one of the most important players in Philadelphia’s lineup and he would’ve been a major loss had it happened.

His ability to change a game with one swing, particularly in big moments, has made him just as big as any hitter in any lineup.

Because of that impact, the Phillies reportedly made it clear externally that they had no plans of letting Schwarber leave. While teams often have backup plans during contract negotiations or free agency discussions, Philadelphia’s front office viewed Schwarber as too important to replace.

According to NBC Sports Philly, the organization was committed to keeping the slugger with them.

“There was none,” the official said. “We weren’t letting him get away.”

Replacing his production, both on the field and in the clubhouse, would’ve been very tough.

For Philadelphia, maintaining continuity in the lineup is important as it continues its pursuit of another deep postseason run. While some have been upset with the Phillies running it back, Schwarber isn’t at fault there, nor is he someone fans shouldn’t have wanted back.
