For most fans who stepped inside the Giants’ waterfront ballpark at China Basin, Renel Brooks-Moon’s unmistakable voice created a warm and inviting environment.
For a select few who sat in sections in front of the public address announcer’s booth and developed friendships with Brooks-Moon, her voice cultivated a community that made the ballpark feel like a second home.
It’s been two years since the Giants shockingly let Brooks-Moon go after a 24-year run as the public address announcer. She’s still announcing — her voice is featured in the popular “MLB The Show” video game — but she’s eager to find new ways to connect with fans.
In this episode of “Section 415,” Brooks-Moon details her journey in baseball, explains how her family’s love of the sport spurred her passion for the game, and shares some of the stories that will appear in an upcoming book.
“I want to tell my truth,” Brooks-Moon said. “And I want to tell, to talk about, the ups and downs of being a Black woman in white, male-dominated industry.”
