INDEPENDENCE — It was a great run from all good things must end.

The Collins Titans’ 2025 baseball season came to a close on Sunday, May 25, with a 5-1 loss to Simon Kenton in the opening round of the 8th Region Tournament.

Still reeling from a heartbreaking extra-inning loss in the 30th District championship, the Titans were looking to reset and make a postseason run. But an early defensive lapse and timely hitting by the opposition proved too much to overcome.

Collins surrendered four runs in the bottom of the third and another in the fifth to fall behind 5-0. The Titans finally answered in the top of the seventh when senior Alston Whitworth lined a single to left to score junior Trey Floden, cutting into the deficit.

Collins threatened again in the final frame, loading the bases with one out, but the rally was cut short by a pair of quick outs.

Whitworth led the way offensively with two hits and the team’s lone RBI. Seniors Brady Morris and James Sloan each reached base, while junior Lukas Cox made solid contact multiple times throughout the contest.

On the mound, junior Preston Miller entered in relief and kept the Titans within reach by posting a scoreless stretch across the late innings.

Despite the early exit, Collins showed resilience throughout the 2025 campaign. With a strong senior core and a group of emerging underclassmen—the Titans built a foundation for continued success next spring.

The Titans graduate 13 seniors, finish the year with a 20-14 record, a runner-up finish in the 30th District, and make their first appearance in the 8th Region Tournament since winning it all back in 2021.
