Kansas City Royals second baseman Adam Frazier (26) is out as Los Angeles Angels second baseman Christian Moore (4) throws to first for a double play in the eighth inning at Angel Stadium.
After losing Luis Rengifo to the Milwaukee Brewers in free agency in February, the Los Angeles Angels do not have an everyday second baseman. Rengifo led the team last season with 68 starts at the position.

Christian Moore had the second-most starts with 45 during the 2025 season. Kyren Paris was third with 17 starts. But the Angels optioned both Moore and Paris to Triple-A on Saturday, so neither will open the season as the Angels’ starting second baseman.
Who Are the Potential Starting Second Basemen?
The top option for second base is non-roster invitee Adam Frazier. He signed a minor league contract with the Angels in February and bats left-handed. Oswald Peraza and Vaughn Grissom are also contenders for the position, and both bat right-handed and are out of minor league options.
In addition to that trio, veteran Chris Taylor could spend some time at second base this season. Taylor is also a right-handed hitter.

Angels manager Kurt Suzuki said the Angels could base who starts at second base each game off the opposing pitcher.
“We had another conversation about it, and it was a conversation with no answers,” Suzuki said, per MLB’s Rhett Bollinger. “It’s one of those things that might come down to the wire. One scenario we’re talking about is that it could depend on who’s pitching against us.”
The Angels have a couple roster questions to answer over the next couple days leading up to Opening Day. The Halos will open the 2026 season on the road against the Houston Astros on March 26.
