The Texas Rangers scored zero runs but the Toronto Blue Jays scored two runs.

Josh Smith smacked a single to lead off the game for Texas and then the Rangers went the next 27 outs without another hit. They never scored and lost.

One thing that really stinks about how things have been going for the Rangers is it completely saps the enjoyment for what has been one of the rare, great runs of pitching that the franchise has ever seen.

Pitching this well just doesn’t happen that often for the Texas Rangers, and the lineup has somehow made the whole experience about as fun as leaving your grandparent’s funeral to go to a dentist’s appointment.

The pitchers can’t do the thing that literally wins a baseball game. They can only prevent it. They’ve been doing great at that. They need the rest of the team to do that in support of them. Instead, they’re sinking to depressing levels of historically bad at it.

Tonight was a perfect example. The Rangers went 8 2⁄3 innings without allowing a run. And yet, the Rangers never scored and lost.

Player of the Game: Tyler Mahle worked around four hits and three walks but did not allow a run in six innings. He did not pick up a win for his effort because, again, the Rangers never scored and lost.

Up Next: The Rangers have tomorrow off before opening up a series at The Shed on Friday against St. Louis.
