The New York Yankees reassigned one of their top prospects to minor league camp.
New York on Thursday announced that right-handed pitcher Carlos Lagrange was reassigned to minor league camp. Manager Aaron Boone admitted it was a “difficult decision,” given the 22-year-old’s impressive spring training.
Yankees ace Max Fried was among multiple people in the Yankees organization who saw a bright future for the Dominican pitcher.
“I’ve never seen velocity like that, consistently and doing it over a bunch of innings,” Fried told reporters, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. “He works really hard. He’s really open to a lot of information, and obviously his results speak for themselves. He’s been really good. He’ll definitely impact this team.”

Lagrange pitched three Grapefruit League games. He recorded a 0.93 ERA in 9 2/3 innings, and he most notably topped out at 103 mph in one of his outings.
That tantalizing talent is why the right-hander is ranked as the Yankees’ No. 2 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. Baseball America ranked Lagrange No. 93 in its prospect rankings heading into the 2026 Major League Baseball season.
Despite the talent displayed during spring training, he’ll get more seasoning in the minors. Last season with Double-A Somerset, Lagrange pitched 78 1/3 innings and recorded a 3.22 ERA with 104 strikeouts. It might not be long until he makes his Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre debut this season if he continues his strong production.
