The Colorado Rockies announced Sunday they have selected the contract of Battlefield High School graduate Zach Agnos.

Agnos then went out and made his MLB debut later that evening, pitching a scoreless eighth inning in the second game of Colorado’s split doubleheader against visiting Washington. The Rockies won that game 3-1 to snap an eight-game losing streak.

Agnos is the first Battlefield graduate to make a Major League Baseball roster since the Haymarket-school opened in 2004.

Agnos spent spring training with the Rockies as a non-roster invitee. He impressed as a reliever, posting a 3.48 ERA with nine strikeouts and one walk in 10.1 innings.

He was re-assigned to minor-league camp March 22 and began the season with the Rockies’ Triple-A affiliate in Albuquerque. In six games with the Isotopes, Agnos had a 2.25 ERA with two saves.

A 10th round pick of the Rockies out of East Carolina in the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft, Agnos has been a dominant closer in Colorado’s minor-league system.

Coming into the 2025 season, he had a career 13-6 overall record with a 1.79 ERA, 44 saves and 132 strikeouts in 105.2 innings.

Agnos started the 2024 season at High-A Spokane before finishing at Double-A Hartford.

He was the co-California League Reliever of the Year in 2023 after leading the minor leagues in saves with 27. Agnos was named to the Rockies MLB Spring Break Roster the last two seasons.
