The Road to Omaha begins Friday with the start of Regional play. The winners of the 16 Regionals will move on to the eight Super Regionals the following weekend, with the winners of the Supers advancing to the College World Series.

The Jayhawks went 20-10 and finished in second place, percentage points behind West Virginia. … Creighton coach Ed Servais will retire whenever the Bluejays’ postseason run ends. Servais is 719-419 in 22 seasons at Creighton and is coaching in the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time. … North Dakota State hit only 30 home runs in 52 games, and no player hit more than five.

Sophomore infielder Luke Nixon was responsible for half of them, stealing 14 in 16 attempts. … Stetson features one of the best starter/closer combos in the nation. Jonathan Gonzalez is 9-2 with 1.95 ERA and a .199 batting average against, and closer Ty Van Dyke is 7-0 with nine saves to go along with a 1.04 ERA and .173 batting average against. … Central Connecticut State first baseman Aidan Redahan leads the nation in hitting with a .458 average. He hit .297 as a junior in 2024.

Kyson, a first-team All-SEC pick, went 10-3 with a 2.47 ERA and 0.912 WHIP, while Malachi went 3-8 with a 5.53 ERA and 1.537 WHIP. … Nebraska’s path to the Big Ten tournament title was not easy. The Cornhuskers faced the league’s pitcher of the year, Michigan State’s Joseph Dzierwa, in Game 1 and also had to beat the league’s co-champs, Oregon (Game 2) and UCLA (championship game), to capture the automatic bid. … There were a total of 71 home runs in Holy Cross’ 54 games (33 by the Crusaders, 38 by their opponents). The Patriots have advanced to a Super Regional only once during that stretch, losing to Virginia in 2014 in Columbia, S.C. (neither Virginia nor DBU put in a bid to host). … Rhode Island third baseman Anthony DePino is 15th nationally in OPS (1.243) and tied for 23rd in home runs (19). He has 64 home runs in four seasons at URI. … Little Rock lost 13 of its last 14 regular-season games but went 5-0 in the OVC tournament to secure the second Regional berth in program history. The Trojans, at 24-32 overall, are one of two teams in the field with a losing record (North Dakota State is the other).

The Horned Frogs have made six trips to the CWS dating back to 2010, five under Jim Schlossnagle and one under current coach Kirk Saarloos. … USC’s Ethan Hedges earned first-team All-Big Ten honors at third base (.343 with 12 home runs and 55 RBIs) and is also one of the Trojans’ top relievers (2-1, 2.40 ERA, nine saves). … Saint Mary’s averaged 11.8 runs in its last nine games overall and scored a total of 63 runs in its five WCC tournament games. Still, the Anteaters went 41-15 overall and 24-6 in the league. … In Big 12 games, Arizona State led the league in average (.328) and slugging (.527) and was second in home runs (45), on-base percentage (.405) and fewest strikeouts (191). … Fresno State catcher Justin Stransky, a first-team All-Mountain West pick, threw out 17 of 19 would-be base stealers. As a team, the Bulldogs allowed only 21 steals in 40 attempts.
