DuBOIS — Opening the season on a rainy Friday afternoon at Showers Field, the Redbank Valley Bulldogs baseball team dropped a 10-4 decision to Moniteau.
The three-time defending D9 Class 2A champion Bulldogs had trouble throwing strikes as the foursome of Braylon Wagner, Carson Gould, Grant Shoemaker and Kaden Sturgeon combined to walk 14 batters.
Wagner, Gould and Shoemaker all threw two innings each with Sturgeon pitching the seventh.
Wagner started and took the loss, giving up two hits and walking three while striking out one with one unearned run surrendered. Both Gould and Shoemaker walked five batters.
Moniteau went up 3-0 in the top of the third and after the Bulldogs scored a run in the bottom of the third, the Warriors scored three runs each in the fifth and sixth innings with a run in the seventh.
The other three Bulldogs runs came in the bottom of the seventh.
The Bulldogs had eight hits and worked three Moniteau pitchers for nine walks. Jaxon Huffman singled twice, including a two-run hit in the bottom of the seventh. Gould tripled and scored a run.
Wagner’s two-out single in the bottom of the fifth was the 100th hit of his career.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to host Clarion on Tuesday at Stern Field in DuBois.
